This policy outlines clear, fair guidelines to protect both your deposit and the longevity of our shared collection.
Terms of Care
As a borrower, you agree to:
- Maintain Book Integrity
- Refrain from marking, highlighting, or altering the book in any way (including pencil notes or dog-earing).
- Avoid exposure to liquids, food, extreme temperatures, or excessive humidity.
- Protect Against Loss or Damage
- Use protective sleeves (available for purchase at KES 150) during transport.
- Store books in clean, dry environments away from direct sunlight.
Condition Guidelines
Normal Wear & Tear (Accepted Without Penalty):
- Light creasing on covers or spines.
- Minor page corner bends from careful handling.
Damage Requiring Repair/Replacement (Deposit Deductions Apply):
- Water damage (warping, stains).
- Torn/missing pages or markings (ink, highlighter, etc.).
- Odors (e.g., smoke, mold) rendering the book unusable.
Deposit & Liability Agreement
- Security Deposit: A one-time refundable deposit of KES 2,000 is required to join the lending service.
- Refund Process: Deposits are returned in full within 7 business days upon account closure, provided all borrowed items are returned in acceptable condition.
- Deductions: Replacement costs (current retail price + 15% restocking fee) will be deducted from deposits for lost or irreparable items.
Damage Resolution Process
- Notify Us: Contact our team via [hello@nile.ke].
- Assessment: We’ll review the issue and provide repair/replacement options.
- Resolution:
- Minor repairs (e.g., loose binding): Covered by Nile Kenya.
- Severe damage: We’ll deduct replacement costs from your deposit and provide a receipt.
